President & Chief Executive Officer

Following graduation under the mentorship of business associates in Los Angeles, Jim returned to Thunder Bay to establish Kalax Computer Systems Inc. in 1983. Kalax is the only computer firm established in 1983 that still exists today. Personal computers were very much in their infancy; fortunately, Jim had the vision to recognize the opportunity that presented itself with Professional Services.

Jim's career includes a wide range of experience such as consulting, installing, and training & support. Firms of all sizes have made use of Jim's vast range of knowledge. He has been a lecturer for the Computer Science Department at Lakehead University and invited as a guest speaker for a variety of organizations and conferences. "Persevering" and "Adaptive" are words that best describe Jim's approach to his career and his life. Over the past 29th years he has continued to provide many students with co-operative placement, and graduates with full-time employment.

His leadership skills have been called upon outside of the office serving in various capacities of community service. Jim is Past President and treasurer for the Kiwanis Club of Westfort Inc., and Past President for the Lakehead University Alumni Association. He was a Founding director and treasurer for the Thunder Giants Football Club, Treasurer for Thunder Bay and District Crime Stoppers, and Founding Vice-chair for Handicap Action's Kid's Connection. Jim is also a Past Provincial Director for The Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Ontario, Past Director of Magnus Theatre Company Ltd. and Moonlight Melodrama. The Annual Kiwanis Police Appreciation Award, and Kiwanis - City of Thunder Bay Best City Block Award - Founding Chair were brought to fruition by Jim's positive attitude and trying to make Thunder Bay a better place to live. He has served on The Board of Governors for Lakehead University and the Agency Review Panel for the United Way.

In his downtime Jim enjoys travel, golf, hiking, downhill skiing, & surfing.
